As it gets colder and darker, it feels easy to let your energy down and many start to feel like they are entering a slump. However, there are a few ways to make sure you stay productive and stay motivated.
Having a Routine
Sticking to a routine (even when you don’t feel like it) is super important. During winter months, we tend to fall out of routine, whether it be by sleeping in, skipping physical activity, or simply isolating ourselves. Having a consistent routine is beneficial because even if your mood drops, your habits can carry you throughout the day.
Staying Socially Engaged
The cold and darkness make us feel like we want to stay in and disconnect, but interacting with others, even through small conversations, can help you feel better during these months. Whether it be studying with a friend, grabbing coffee with a classmate, or even a walk to class with someone will help you feel supported. Everything counts!
Staying Physically Active
Movement for our bodies is important even if it is for a short period of time. Although we can get stuck amidst schoolwork and other obligations, taking out a few minutes a day to go on a walk, hit a workout at the gym, or play your favourite sport, can help you get out of a slump and feel motivated.
Being in a Nice Environment
Your environment affects your mood more than you think. Personally, I dislike studying at home as I feel isolated, so I like to study in places where I feel productive and can study with friends. Keeping your space tidy, lighting up candles, and making your place cozy can lift your mood and contribute to a productive day!
Mental health is important and no one should have to go through it alone. If you need support, please seek a professional.
